Trinket's puppies were at the vet today for their vet appointment and we took them (and Celina's puppies) to a new-to-us vet that was recommended to us by our regular vet who is at retirement age, and we couldn't be happier with this vet clinic!

We are used to, and insist on, vets being very thorough in their examination to ensure the health of our puppies -- but in our 16+ years, we have *never* seen a more comprehensive health examination done, and we are thrilled to announce that Trinket's puppies were all found to be in *EXCELLENT* health!

During their examination, the puppies received a complete *head-to-toe* examination.  Some of the list shown below covers health checks that we insist upon to ensure our puppies health, but it has never been conducted so thoroughly, or without prompting of the vet -- all was standard in their checklist of areas to assess on a puppy which is almost unheard of!

Each of Trinket's puppies passed the following health checks:

-  Eyes  (thoroughly examined for any abnormalities or discharge, as well as a look at the internal eyes with an ophthalmoscope)

​-  Ears  (thoroughly assessed for redness/infection or the presence of mites and the ears were looked at with an otoscope)

​-  Mouth & Throat   (a complete examination where the colour of the gums was checked, as well as the swallow reflex, and teeth alignment which included the whole jaw and not just the front teeth )

-  Heart  (thoroughly listening of the heart for irregular heartbeat patterns or murmurs, and noting the beats per minute to ensure it was within normal range)

​-  Lungs  (a thorough long listen with a stethoscope to check for rhythmic breaths and clarity of lungs)

​-  Stomach palpitation  (a thorough palpitation (means to feel) of the stomach to checked for any signs of bloating, discomfort, or the presence of an umbilical hernia as well as inguinal hernias which occur in the groin)

-  Skin & Coat  (an examination of the fur for even distribution and cleanliness, and a look at the skin by parting the fur in various locations to check for the presence of excessive dander, skin irritation, or the presence of flea dirt)

​-  Flexion of joints  (checked for fluid movement of joints in the hips, knees, elbows, and the overall movement of the puppy)

​-  Postural Reflexes  (the "paw flip test" checks for proper neurological function where the paw is flipped under so the pads face upwards towards the belly. This is done to see how quickly the puppy rights it's paw so that the pads are flat on the ground/surface again the way a dog would normally bear weight/stand)

-  Equilibrium  (checked balance by turning the puppy on it's back to make sure the puppy can roll upright again, and assessing the gait of a puppy)

​-  Temperature  (checked for normal body temperature)

​-  Weight  (checked for healthy weight and growth rate)

​The puppies passed their health exam with an A+++!!!  The vet was very impressed with the puppies and the care that they have received from us, and said he hoped to see us come back in the future as it was a delight to see such well behaved and healthy puppies, plus their moms too (Celina's litter was also there for their appointment)!

Trinket's puppies received their 1st vaccine which covers Parvovirus, Distemper, CAV2-Hepatitis, and Parainfluenza.

The puppies were also dewormed with Strongid T according to weight, and their weights are shown below:

Maisie -- 1.75 kg ... (3.9 pounds)
Eadyn -- 1.71 kg ... (3.8 pounds)
Truffle -- 1.04 kg ... (2.3 pounds)
Pekoe -- 1.86 kg ... (4.1 pounds)

The puppies are all eating well and we will have a written instructional for their feeding instructions at pick up according to their weights. We are feeding them 3 meals per day in the morning, afternoon, and the evening.

They are also doing great on their potty training -- easily going outside and they are not upset about the snow!  And they are content in the crate and are currently sleeping in the crate from approximately 10pm to 6am.  It is not unheard of for puppies to wake up in the night and need to go outside for the first 2-7 days in their new home as their whole world has changed and they are sometimes lonely without their siblings.

We appreciate those on the list being patient for this update!  We had a long day on the road with the puppies traveling to the vet -- 2 hours each way to and from the vet clinic.  Plus all the care of our dogs and puppies once home again before being able to send off this update.

We are pleased to tell you that the puppies were all found to be in perfect health! And *none* of the puppies were carsick or showed any signs of nervousness in the vehicle -- on the way home, they slept the entire way!

Below are photos of Trinket (and Celina) with their puppies at the vet clinic -- the pups in both litters waiting patiently without any fuss in their crates!  Even meeting other dogs, and a cat (at a distance) and they were not phased!
